Elizabeth A. (Wilcox) Newman

Elizabeth A. (Wilcox) Newman, 62, of Olive Branch, Miss., passed peacefully on Thursday May 23, 2024 with family after a courageous battle with cancer. Beth was born January 20, 1962 in Lafayette to the late Robert and Norma (Temple) Wilcox.

The youngest of three children, Beth grew-up in the Buck Creek area of Tippecanoe County. Beth was a 1980 graduate of Wm Henry Harrison High School where she participated in Spanish Club, yearbook, choir, was a wrestlerette, and was a proud “Harrison Raider.” The summer of ’79 Beth along with ladies from other high schools were members of the American Legion Post 11 Fan Club.

On July 8, 1995 Beth married her new best friend and travel companion, Eric Newman, in an outdoor wedding ceremony at Thomas Lake, Putnam County, with close family and friends. After spending her entire life in Tippecanoe County, Beth and Eric moved to Ellettsville, Alachua, Fla.; and Olive Branch, Miss..

Beth spent over 30 years and held various positions at Purdue National Bank (Bank One), The Farmers State Bank, Lafayette Saving Bank and Stallard & Schuh Title Services. For the past twelve years, she was a stay-at-home mom to her granddaughter, Danielle.

Beth enjoyed antiquing Hoosier collectibles, but especially enjoyed collecting Longaberger baskets and trekking to the annual Collectors Club gathering in Dresden, Ohio with sister, Deb, and many other family members and friends.

Beth was an active member and Past Commander of both the Navy Club of Lafayette, Ship 12 Auxiliary and Navy Club Indiana Squadron Auxiliary. While living in Florida, Beth was the “Volunteer of the Year” at Irby Elementary in Alachua.

Beth enjoyed traveling, some of her favorite destinations were Oaxaca and Guadalajara, Mexico; Venice, Milan, Florence, Pisa and Rome Italy; Fairbanks, Alaska; Asheville, N.C.; New Orleans, La.; Charleston, S.C.; St. Augustine and Siesta Key, Fla., as well as many other cities and states across America.

Beth was an avid Purdue Boilermaker and Chicago Cubs fan. Beth also enjoyed following the New Orleans Saints and our favorite Boilermaker, Drew Brees, catching games in Tampa and New Orleans. She also attended games with her adopted teams, the Florida Gators and the Ole Miss Rebels.

Beth is survived by her children, Chelsea Brown of Lafayette; Scott Newman (Wehilani) of Chester, Va.; Ryan Newman (Mariah) of Lafayette and Danielle Brown of Olive Branch, Miss.. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Peyton, Olivia, Eli, Kris, Skyler and Theo. Also surviving is her sister Deb Mahan (Jim) and brother Jeff Wilcox (Debbie) all of Lafayette.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Beth at a later date.
