Community Garden program continues at Bloomfield Library July 20, all are welcome

Monday, July 8, 2024

The ongoing Community Garden project begun at the Bloomfield Library main branch this spring with the installation of large planting beds and several raised beds, the planting of many varieties of produce and the introduction of a series of children’s activities centered on learning about good nutrition and growing your own food continues July 20 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. with another learning opportunity for Greene County kids of all ages.

The hour-long activity will help children learn about how to harvest in the garden, clean and prepare vegetables and the benefits of fruits and vegetables in our diets.

Kids who are not familiar with the library garden will be given a brief tour and an opportunity to try the ripe vegetables if they would like.

Back inside the library, participants will be invited to play the “Floor is Lava” game, followed by a book reading and discussion.

Next, children are invited to “Christmas in July: Making and Eating a Healthy Plate”, an activity in which kids will build and eat their own Christmas trees and Santas from fresh, prepared fruit and vegetables.

Guests are welcome to eat their creations right away or take them home for later.
