Football fans want football photos back up

To the Editor,

For decades, in early August, Linton Miner football players start discussing goals they are setting for the upcoming season. Usually the main goal is the same thing: Hang a picture in the hallway. Whether it's an undefeated regular season, sectional or regional championship, or the always dreamt about state championship, every Miner wants his team picture in that hallway hanging with all the other storied teams.

From preschoolers to Bob Moss, most people enjoy stopping in the hall and looking at an reminiscing about past teams and accomplishments. Granddads, fathers, and grandsons all enjoy looking at faces, reading names, and talking about records and scores. Also the many opposing teams that have to stroll by all the great tradition and history hanging there; could be a little intimidating to say the least.

No More! That tradition is all gone! All because one administrator at Linton Jr. High has taken it upon himself to convince the school board that it's just too expensive to keep the pictures hanging in the hallway. That's right, without any discussion with or approval of the athletic director or head football coach, the team pictures with the exception of last year's have been removed from the hallway and have been place in the annex at a height that makes it impossible to read any of the names or recognize any of the players.

Apparently, over the years, a picture or two has been damaged and needed repairs and the administrator did not feel there was money for the repairs. I'm sure the football coaching staff would be more than happy to supply any funds needed for repairs of pictures and or a security camera in the hallway.

Let's please get those pictures back in the hallway where everyone can enjoy them once again. And who knows, maybe that dream will come true someday and we can hang a picture of a state championship team right there with all the other great teams.

Response incredible from Bloomfield community

The Bloomfield Lions Club hosted a fundraising event this past Wednesday in downtown Bloomfield. The purpose of the event was to raise funds for the Indiana Lions Cancer Fund and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association, with the profits being donated in memory of former Lion Jim (Big O) Oliphant.

Wednesday turned out to be a wonderful day. The weather was perfect and the taco hungry crowd started arriving early. While we had planned to sell tacos-in-a-bag from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the eager crowd started arriving slightly before 11 a.m. The response from the Bloomfield community and the generous people from Greene County was overwhelming. We purchased supplies for 150 tacos and that supply dwindled quickly. We scrambled with backup supplies for an estimated 25 more sales before we completely ran out of food. We were sold out of our supply within the first hour. We apologize to those of you that we were not able to serve.

Thanks to all the individuals, businesses, and governmental offices that came out to support our project. Thanks to your generosity we raised $917. The Bloomfield Lions Club is proud to serve in such a supporting community.
