It’s that time of year again
It’s hard to believe but school starts again in less than a week.
Where has the summer gone?
I remember when I was in grade school, classes resumed the day after Labor Day. And Labor Day weekend has traditionally marked the “unofficial” end of summer.
Remember gents, no white belts and white loafers after Labor Day! That was the rule back in the days of polyester anyway.
The start of a new school year means another fall sports season is upon us - complete with hard-hitting football action, fast and furious volleyball matches and cross country races, along with soccer, boys tennis and girls golf.
As always, we at the Greene County Daily World strive to bring you the best and most comprehensive coverage of our local high school sports as possible. But with two sports writers and six high schools, obviously we can’t be at every event. Thus we’ll be depending on the coaches to get us their results on a timely basis so we can report them.
In the coming days Andrew Bowen and I will be visiting your schools. We’ll be talking to coaches and trying to find out all we can about our boys and girls teams.
Coaches, if at all possible we’d like to have the players in uniform on picture day. It makes for a much better-looking team photo.
Then we’ll package it all together neatly for our annual Fall Sports Preview publication.
As a sports fan I’ve always looked forward to reading season previews.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading ours.
