Freezin’ for one reason: Love
On February 11, in Terre Haute, I and my fellow intrepid reporter Andrew Christman will be taking the Polar Plunge, to benefit Greene County Special Olympics.
I was inspired by the tireless efforts of Linda and Bill Bedwell, although I have to say it was Linda who inspired me the most.
Year after year, and all year long, this woman is in some way helping Greene County Special Olympians, and its a beautiful thing.
Last year, I wrote about the Polar Plunge as well, but Bedwell’s devious ways did not hook me like they did this year. By ‘devious ways,’ I mean shining example and polite request, just so you know.
Soooooooooooooooo I was sort-of thinking about it, and I mentioned it to Andrew, and what does he do but immediately pull up pictures of himself in high school, participating in the Polar Plunge! In a red speedo, no less!
Sometimes, these youngsters can surprise you.
Well shoot, if this young whippersnapper can do it, and if a busy councilwoman like Linda Bedwell can do it (AND WIN A PRIZE FOR THE MOST DONATIONS), then I guess I can too!
To participate, we must each collect at least $75 in donations (LAST YEAR BEDWELL COLLECTED ABOUT 6,000 IN DONATIONS), and so far I have $20.
Anybody want to help a sister out here? Deductions are 100 percent tax deductible, and the best part is: every penny will be spent helping a Special Olympics athlete!
Sixty percent stays right here in Greene County, paying for entry fees, uniforms, and stuff like that for Greene County’s Special Olympians. The other 40 percent goes to the state Special Olympics, and Greene County Special Olympians benefit from that too, in the form of eye exams, eyeglasses, podiatrist visits, new shoes and other things like that.
See?
IT’S WIN-WIN, you guys!
If you can donate, you have my deepest and most heartfelt thanks. If you can’t, that okay, maybe next year?
Please make out checks to GREENE COUNTY Special Olympics, cash can just be handed over here at the paper office on Main Street or checks and cash can be mailed to 49 A St NE in Linton.
These athletes are truly special people. With our help, they can be CHAMPIONS!
Thank You..........
