Have I lost my ever-lovin’ mind? It’s Linda Bedwell’s fault.
On Saturday, Feb. 17, I will once again join Linda and the Greene County Popsicles as we willingly jump into a swimming pool in costumes in the Special Olympics Indiana Polar Plunge 2018 in Terre Haute.
Last year, fellow reporter Andrew Christman and I braved the jump and raised a few hundred for Special Olympics.
Sixty percent of everything raised by our team stays right here in Greene County, helping our amazing athletes, supporting them to keep on winning.
I think about that every time I cover a Greene County Special Olympics event, and it makes me feel happy and squishy inside to know that I’m helping.
The donations are not only tax deductible, but donors will have that same happy squishy feeling for themselves, every time they see another Special Olympics event in which our Greene County athletes take part.
Because of us, these people get to participate. Because of us, they get to win. Because of us, they get what we take for granted and that’s a beautiful thing. They get pride, self-esteem, satisfaction and the knowledge they are not only part of a team, but part of all of us in Greene County.
My goal is to raise $100, but I would be happy to raise more. So far I have raised $60.
Okay, yes, this is a plea for donations. I just hemmed and hawed because asking people to give a pinch of their hard-earned dough is not my forte. It’s not what I’m good at, what I am good at is helping people.
With this, I need your help. Help me to help Special Olympics if you can. Even just a few dollars would get me closer to my goal.
If you can’t, we’re still friends.
If you can, I owe ya one.
I even have my own FirstGiving page, making it easy-peasy to donate!
Yay!
