Even reading the title of this column gives me anxiety. At this point in my life, and with this job, I have more things to do, things to remember and people to call/email/text message/facebook message than at any other point in my life.
In a nutshell, I’m BUSY,BUSY,BUSY all of the time. Anxiety is a constant companion, always willing to take the reins and drive my buggy into a tree if I’m tired of driving (I’m not, I’m not tired of driving, anxiety, GO AWAY, I GOT THIS)
I will admit, before somebody hacks into my medical records so they can claim I was hiding it, I do have a prescribed little helper with me at all times, but I am proud to say I barely use it. Just knowing it’s there to punch anxiety in the FACE is a comfort. I also have my art.
Diving into my creativity takes me somewhere else, somewhere where kittens can talk and the Ramones are all alive and deeply in love with me.
There’s no stress there, only swirly colors and talking kittens who, I forgot to mention, are made of chocolate pudding and just regenerate themselves if you happen to devour them. They don’t even mind if you do.
Ahhhhhhhh......just describing that place took me there for a minute. I’m so relaxed now.
Aw, dang. You know what? I just remembered tonight is a production night, with a deadline, and people are waiting for the newspaper pages I send in PDF form so they can make plates from them for the printing press.
If I don’t get these pages put together in a nice way in a timely fashion, you guys don’t get your paper tomorrow, and then the whole county revolts, forming mobs with torches who come to the paper office and maybe my house, all thirsty for my blood.
Now I’m anxious again...sigh.
