The Kentucky Derby is here for you
Growing up in Kentucky the first 13 years of my life, the biggest day of the sports calendar during the summer is the Kentucky Derby. So when my family moved to Indiana roughly 20 years ago, I was shocked to see people here not celebrate it like they do in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The Derby is Saturday as it is always the first Saturday in May. Last year it was moved to September due to COVID-19 but it is back where it belongs for 2021.
The Derby is a great reason to have a good time.
Need an excuse to throw a party during a pandemic?
The Kentucky Derby is here for you.
Need an excuse to eat appetizers and light up the grill?
The Kentucky Derby is here for you.
Need an excuse to gamble on a sporting event?
The Kentucky Derby is here for you.
Need an excuse to consume adult beverages?
The Kentucky Derby is here for you.
For everyone in the Ohio Valley, Saturday afternoon is your day. I do enjoy the Indianapolis 500 but the Kentucky Derby is just a better time.
My family has been drawing horses out of a hat and betting a few dollars on the event forever. If your family has never done that before I encourage you to give it a try Saturday.
The Derby does have an emotional impact on me as well. My grandmother would always tear up when they played “My Old Kentucky Home.” The tradition of the event goes back to just after the Civil War. Name another sporting event around here that can say that.
So if you have never had a Kentucky Derby party before I encourage you to give it a try. Like I said…
The Kentucky Derby is here for you.
