Waiting to the last day
Some people have always been eager to do their taxes as quickly as possible while myself on the other hand waits till the last minute.
I have never understood why people get the jump on their taxes. Or better yet, while you would pay a company or buy an expensive tax software that advertises at will. The counter against doing your taxes yourself though is that people like me procrastinate.
The tax deadline for this year was May 17, so naturally, I put them off until May. For my adult life, I have had to work multiple jobs, which makes taxes annoying. The fact that tax credits and loopholes exist for so many different reasons but not a three part-time job credit blows my mind. Maybe it would be a tax credit that would be too effective in curtailing government revenue.
I hear some people hate taxes because of math. Today, though it seems most of the math is figured out for you based on whatever tax website you use.
Overall, I dislike taxes because they serve as a reminder of how truly small we all are in the grand scheme of things. Thank you, Internal Revenue Service, for showing me once more that I am just a small social security number with fiscal information in a W-2 or 1099.
I also procrastinate because I am generally lazy about it. Why work proactively when the chances are I will owe money?
Until the government makes it so that there is no work involved with taxes, I will continue working to make sure I put them off.
