Get out of here 2021
My strangest theory I have is that every year of our life in represents a season. Well, 2021 was a winter for me after 2020 was actually an autumn.
New Year’s Day 2021 began with a former landlord trying to claim I owe her money. A few days later our nation’s capital was attacked while Greene County was in its peak for COVID. It was a rough start.
The year did not get much better as even going on vacation in the summer caused issues. The year culminated with family drama on Christmas followed by my car kicking the bucket. Yep, it’s winter.
Looking back, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2021 were all winters for me. Those years were not necessarily terrible because of bad luck, but they were years where I was reminded in multiple ways that I am not in control of my life as much as think I am. For Christians, the winters are evidence that we need God in control instead of our own master plans. No, I would not try and say we all have a “winter year” every four years is biblical but it is something I have observed. I am sure there is metaphor for non-believers and I’ll leave that to them.
Next year is a spring for me. I will be learning and growing in terms of becoming a father for the first time. My wife and I are expecting a baby boy in May. Spring is about cultivating new skills, new relationships, new starts. There will be plenty of growing to do for me in new areas in 2022. Maybe 2022 is a spring for you as well.
Until then, 2021 can please exit the stage.
