He made it to 102
Last weekend was a long one. After covering Linton’s regional win over Lapel, my family had the quick turnaround of driving to Kentucky for the funeral of my grandfather.
He passed away a week ago at the age of 102. He was the last of my four grandparents to pass away and was the only one of them to see my son.
I have been lucky to not attend too many funerals in my life. Every funeral I have been at has been a mixture of emotions that equal something I can’t really process. Maybe that is how they all go.
My grandfather, James Pace, planned out his funeral almost 20 years ago in 2003. How long people would speak, who would be his pallbearers and so on.
Looking back now that is who my grandfather was. He planned everything out from a practical point of view. This practical point of view included his death.
The negative though is when everything is planned out it is hard to get emotional. The typical emotions from a funeral were programmed out.
Either way, I will be processing the past weekend for weeks. Probably while I am freezing at Evansville Friday night. It’s back to football coverage for me.
