Almost there
As far as I can remember, this has been a thing. An almost constant phenomenon that you just can’t avoid. If you’re one of the lucky ones who this doesn’t happen to, I envy you.
I’m talking about that mid-afternoon slump. You know, that time after lunch when your food hits right and your couch, pillow, or comfy chair start calling your name. Nap time.
I know naps start being more frowned upon once you’re not a child any longer, but there’s just something about that time of day that gets me. I’m not even one that naps much, but come 3 p.m. or so I sure wouldn’t mind one.
In school, any subjects after lunch seemed to drag on until the end of the day. And you know there isn’t much left in the day, but it still seems like there should be some kind of break there. Something about eating and then being sedentary and trying to focus make you yearn for an espresso shot.
I’m sure there’s some science behind why we feel this way, some psychology to explain it. The Spanish even plan for it in their day. Everyone closes up shop and heads in for siesta.
The funny thing is I’m writing this around that sleepy time of day. Maybe that’s my inspiration.
Some people can hardly function without a daily nap or two, some run on four hours of sleep a night, some main-line caffeine. We all have our ways of making it through the day. Don’t judge, just do what works for you.
In the meantime, can someone send me some caffeine?
