This one’s for the Marvel fans
Since the long-awaited “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” comes out this week, I figured a Marvel-themed column was appropriate. Plus, I couldn’t think of anything else. So, here we go.
Also, potential spoiler alert warning.
I’ve seen just about every Marvel movie, aside from the “X-Men” ones two or three of the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield “Spiderman” films and a few others. I’ve even seen a few of the shows, like “Wandavision”, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, “Daredevil”, “Loki”, “Hawkeye” and “Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. I may have too much free time....but let’s not focus on that.
I think it’s safe to say “Infinity War” and “Endgame” caused some pain for Marvel fans all over. It’s been a rocky road since then. Not to mention the fun twists thrown in in “No Way Home”.
Anyone who has followed this cinematic universe to the point that they are actively anticipating the next “Dr. Strange” film probably shares the same sentiment: ish is gonna get dicey. There’s already speculation that Dr. Strange and Wanda Maximoff might meet versions of themselves from the multiverse, that one of them (or several of them) might be the villain figure(s).
But what I’m concerned about is how soon “Thor: Love and Thunder” comes out after “Multiverse of Madness”. A mere two month time span. Seems to me they are releasing the next Thor film as a way to placate fans after what will happen in “Multiverse of Madness”. I for one am awfully suspicious, and I hope I’m not right.
It could very well be that they are making up for lost time after the COVID mess screwing everything up with release dates. Or, it could be an offering. An olive branch from Marvel.
If there is one thing that Marvel fans are good at, it’s waiting. Waiting for the next installment, for the next trailer, the next season, the second part of that ghastly cliffhanger. It’s all we can do. That, and speculate about what might happen, what this little detail might mean.
I have even begun to think Marvel might be working to create a world too big for even them to keep track of. But, I’ll save those thoughts for another week.
