Paper offers election straw poll
The Greene County Daily World is offering voters in Linton and Jasonville the opportunity to voice their opinions about the upcoming May 3 primary election.
Unlike a year ago when there were several races county-wide, this year's primary is focused mainly on Linton.
There are just six contested races in the county, five in Linton and one in Jasonville.
There will be a couple more contested races in the fall.
The newspaper posted an election straw poll on its website -- www.gcdailyworld.com -- Wednesday afternoon.
A year ago before the fall election, another straw poll was conducted. The poll predicted all but one county-wide race -- Greene County coroner -- correctly.
The poll is unscientific, and isn't intended to sway a voter one way or another when they actually vote May 3. Voters need to make up their own minds, and the newspaper will do its best to offer information about the candidates so voters can make an informed decision.
The newspaper will do stories on all the contested races the week before the election. Earlier this spring the newspaper presented a three-part series concerning the Linton mayoral race between Mike Hennette and John Wilkes.
The newspaper also offered Hennette and Wilkes the opportunity to take part in an open forum/debate as a live-stream broadcast on our website. Wilkes accepted, but Hennette declined.
The results from the straw poll will be announced in the newspaper and on our website a couple of times before the primary election.
To vote, go to www.gcdailyworld.com and click on the word vote (with a checkmark for the V) and you will be directed to the straw poll.
Even if you do or don't vote on the straw poll, please remember to cast your ballot May 3.
