The Linton 3-on-3 boys and girls basketball tournament is set for Saturday. The Men's Open, Elementary Boys/Girls, High School Boys/Girls divisions will begin at 9 a.m. The Junior High Boys/Girls divisions will start at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and concessions will be available. A 3-point contest will take place for the older age groups with a free throw contest available for the younger groups. Viral infection reported in local elementaries

Area school nurses are seeing a few cases of a viral illness they say isn't usually serious, but can cause fever, lesions inside the mouth, a rash and sore throat among smaller children. It's called Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. Jane Keyes, RN, school nurse at Shakamak Elementary School, said she realizes there have been rumors about an outbreak of the disease, but said the rumors are overblown. New Kiwanis Club begins in Linton

A newly formed club that will focus on meeting the needs of the community, and especially its children, has been organized in Linton. Called the Shawnee Trails Kiwanis Club, it already has 20 charter members. Dean Dorrell, a Washington resident who works in Linton as the Information Services Director for Four Rivers Resource Services, was instrumental in forming the new club. He also is known for his portrayals of Abraham Lincoln in school programs, museums, festivals and community theaters...
