A good point was brought up to me by a fellow writer who suggested that the Linton Freedom Festival parade have a local grand marshal. I have to admit that I had never thought about it. But I do agree. Not to say that there's anything wrong with having an outsider as grand marshal, but it is the Linton Freedom Festival and it would be great to honor a local every once in a blue moon...

Bloomfield sophomore Shelby Gott has been named the Greene County Daily World all-area player of the year in softball for the 2008 season. The sophomore is one of eight underclassmen chosen for the 2008 team. Gott lead the Lady Cards to the school's first sectional championship since 1995, pitching every inning of every game. Gamma Tau chapter of Tri Kappa announced its scholarship winners in May. The $500 Vocational Scholarship went to Jessica Yuodzukinas of Linton. She plans to attend Ivy Tech in Evansville and major in Radiation Therapy. The $700 Academic Scholarship went to Kayla Held of White River Valley.
