UPDATED: Overturned truck shuts down State Road 54 east of Bloomfield
(Local News ~ 07/24/09)
An overturned tri-axle truck hauling rock had both lanes of State Road 54 -- one half mile east of Bloomfield closed for about an hour early Friday evening. The wreck happened about 5:10 p.m. The other lane was opened to traffic about 10 p.m. after the truck and its cargo could be removed from the roadway. The accident happened when a 1999 International tri-axle driven by Jeffrey Lester of Martinsville was traveling east on State Road 54 and his truck dropped off the roadway. He then tried to gain control and the truck overturned on its side and sliding across the westbound lane toward oncoming traffic, according to a report filed by Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Eric. S. Smith. When the truck overturned, rock that was being hauled spilled over both lanes, surrounding a 2004 Outlook, driving by Teresa Parker, of Bloomington. Parker was not hurt. Lester was transported to Bloomington Hospital. There is no report on his condition.
