I'm not sure what it advertises, but a recent commercial caught my attention when I heard the words, "Birthdays are Wonderful." They should be wonderful, but it isn't always true. George Carlin had a famous comedy skit in which he talked about the way people feel about age at different seasons of their life. Carlin said it's only the very young and the very old that are proud of their age. Little children will add to their age, such as "I'm three and a half," or "I'm almost five."...

An Ohio railroad investigator says it's good that three dangerous railroad crossings in Greene County have been upgraded, but said the cost to taxpayers is much too high. "What the railroads have done is doubled, tripled and quadrupled the price. The reason the railroads have done it is to limit the number of crossings that get upgraded and therefore it limits the number they have to maintain," Comer alleges...

Rose Louise Schubla, 76, of Linton, passed away at her residence Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010. She was born in Sullivan on Dec. 27, 1933 the daughter of Eugene Villain and Ollie Mae Ladson Villain. Rose retired from GE in Linton.
