Police recover stolen car in less than 30 minutes

In less than a half-hour after a vehicle was reported stolen over the weekend in Linton, it was recovered in Bloomfield and the driver, an 18-year-old Bloomington man, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft. Dakota Smith was booked in to the Greene County Jail on initial charges of auto theft, a class D felony, and possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor. Around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Linton police received a report that a maroon-colored 2000 Grand Prix had been stolen from a customer at the Sunoco convenience store on State Road 54 and NE 8th St. Cpl. Paul Clark of the Linton Police Department responded along with LPD Officers Nick Yingling and Brock Garrison. According to Clark's report, the customer said he left the car unattended for a short time on the east side of the building, with the keys in the ignition, and when he returned, it was gone.
