John Robert Sexton, 59, of Linton, passed away at 3:21 p.m. on Sunday April 15, 2012 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born in Sullivan on Aug. 7, 1952 the son of Robert Sexton and Mary Secrest Sexton. John was a Marine, a member of the Followers of Christ Baptist Church in Carlisle, the Linton American Legion Post 22, Linton Masonic Lodge 560, and the Greene County Shrine Club...

A special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate the off-duty actions of a Linton Police Department patrolman that allegedly happened in the past two months. Thomas "Tom" Austin McGill, 66, of Solsberry, passed away Monday at the IU Health and Hospice House of Bloomington. He was born on Nov. 16, 1945, the son of Austin Aubrey and Frances Ann (Selman) McGill. Tom was a pipefitter for the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local Union 136 and retired after 47 years of service. He graduated from Eastern Greene High School class of 1964 and was a member of the Solsberry Masonic Lodge 411...

After several meetings of discussion and a re-bid process, the Greene County Commissioners decided Monday morning to award a three-year contract for Reassessment Support Services for the county assessor's office. Paul George Criqui, 82, of Linton, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Linton Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born July 3, 1929 in Buffalo, N.Y., to Edward Simon and Anna Mary (Rebhan) Criqui. Paul retired from Kelsey Hayes in Michigan, and he worked at Kirby Risk, Bedford, and security at Greene County Hospital after moving to Indiana. ...

Terre Rae (Camden) Elkins of Bloomington passed away on Sunday, April 15 after a battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Ray Camden and Betty Jo (Anderson) Camden and they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her grandparents, Dovy and Roscoe Camden...

Eastern Greene dropped its Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference opener, 3-0 to visiting North Daviess Monday night. It snapped three-game winning streak by the Lady Thunderbird softball team. "It wasn't a bad game, 3-0, we just didn't hit the ball well," Eastern Greene (3-8,0-1) coach Gina Ingram said. "We had good contact at the plate, we just hit it right at them."...

West Vigo scored six runs in its first two at bats as the host Lady Vikings defeated Shakamak 8-3 in a non-conference high school softball game Monday. DUGGER -- Bloomfield righthander Nicole Hughes got all the runs she would need in the first inning to claim her fifth win of the year in a 9-3 Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference win over host Union Monday night at Dugger. The Eastern Greene junior varsity baseball team improved to 2-1 with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings at Brownstown Central Friday. The Eastern Greene Thunderbirds fell to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference following a 6-5 loss at Clay City Monday night. "We're disappointed to have come up short in a game like this," Eastern Greene coach Trevor McConnell said. "You hate to have games like this especially in a conference game where your offense is non-existent at times."...

The Linton-Stockton Lady Miners improved to 3-2 on the year following an 11-1 win over visiting Owen Valley Monday at Linton. The game was halted after six innings due to the 10-run rule.
