Linton Mayor John Wilkes will host a meeting of the Southern Indiana Mayor's Roundtable on Friday at Linton Elks No. 866 Lodge. Bloomfield American Legion Post No. 196 is sponsoring an opportunity for motorcyclists to ride for a good cause this Saturday. Registration for the Motorcycle Run in Honor of Ian Laster will begin at 11 a.m., and the ride will start at noon. The cost is $20 per rider, or $30 per couple...

Gasoline prices are hovering close to $4 a gallon and everyone probably wishes their vehicle was able to a get little better fuel mileage. A group of Eastern Greene High School students have been busy at work on a project trying to come up with the vehicle design and right mechanical combination to squeeze out the best gasoline mileage possible -- maybe as much as 500 miles per gallon...

A 41-year-old Jasonville man, accused of stalking and violating a protective order, has an October jury trial scheduled in Greene Circuit Court. A Solsberry man, who walked away from the Greene County Community Corrections Center in Bloomfield in November 2011, has been apprehended. Allen Eugene Dixon, Jr., 29, was arrested Tuesday on a Greene Superior Court warrant charging him with escape -- a class C felony -- by Greene County Sheriff's Department Special Deputy Justin Alsman, who serves as a jail officer...

Stephen French was timed at 11.11 seconds in winning the 100 meters Monday in a high school track and field meet at Owen Valley. Vertis P. Weathers, age 84, of Linton, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Glenburn Home in Linton. He was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Daviess County, the son of Stephen & Maude (Pettit) Weathers. He retired from General Electric in Linton in 1989. At age 16, he worked in a factory in Washington to make parachutes for World War II. He was a member of the Elnora Outdoor Club and was the last one living of the founding members...

The run-down home sits abandoned, just a few yards from where the students of Linton-Stockton School Corp. play. Its backyard lays overgrown, with piles of trash scattered throughout the property. Old construction debris, stray pop bottles, and even a styrofoam gravestone from Halloweens past lay scattered around the site -- an odd scene to see in late April...
