LuAnn M. Kohler-Shonk, 46, Linton, passed away early afternoon on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute with her loving family by her side. She was born in Rochester, Pa., on Dec., 20, 1965, the daughter of Herbert C. and Beverly A. (Parks) Kohler. On Oct. 6, 2007, LuAnn married Timothy L. Shonk. LuAnn was an attorney who worked with children, battered women and charities. She wrote grants to help charities and the most recent project was helping the Elks obtain playground equipment for handicapped children at the local Humphreys Park. LuAnn enjoyed several hobbies including music, gardening, photography, and birding. She combined her love of photography and birding with photos in the local Goosepond Wildlife Area and also helped to identify some of the rare species which have migrated here. She was an avid gardener, as well, and authored a column as -- "The Garden Gal" -- in the local newspaper known as the Lintonian. Survivors include her husband, Timothy L. Shonk; her mother, Beverly A. (Parks) Kohler and a brother Shawn (Nicole) Kohler all of Rochester, Pa.; a niece Cassie and nephew Darrick; her maternal grandmother Zelda Parks of Rochester, Pa.; and her mother and father-in-law Brenda and Randy Shonk of Linton. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert C. Kohler; and her maternal grandfather Theodore Parks. The funeral service will be at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Sam Bush officiating. Cremation will follow per LuAnn's wishes. Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonpoindexter.com .
