NEWBERRY ---- Four area fire departments responded to a Monday night fire in an abandoned house in Newberry. The fire at a vacant residence at Fourth and Union streets was reported at 11:04 a.m. The blaze fully engulfed the aged home before the fire units arrived.

Two Linton-Stockton High School graduates are winners of the 2012 Maxine and Earl Brown Scholarship. Taylor Heston-Griffith Sloan, son of Donnie and Teresa Sloan, and Cody Eldon Johnson, son of Troy and Carol Johnson, will each receive $8,000, given in $1,000 increments during each college semester...

Democratic candidate for governor John Gregg discussed issues, ideas and campaigning at the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Phil Harris Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon. Linton Mayor John Wilkes introduced Gregg by describing his "southern Indiana charm," and noting the gubernatorial candidate has served the state of Indiana for 20 years...

For the second successive year, Greene County workers will follow the same holiday schedule used by Indiana state employees. What this means is county workers will have 12 paid holidays in 2013. It also means, the county employees will not have President's Day and New Year's Eve as holidays -- two paid days which were removed from the 2012 holidays list...

Vincennes Rivet needed less than 90 minutes to earn a high school boys tennis win at Linton-Stockton Tuesday.
