Snow forces school closures

The area's first measurable snow of the winter season has closed school in several area school districts for Friday giving students a one day early holiday break. School will be closed in the Bloomfield, Eastern Greene and White River Valley School districts due to snow.

Game postponed

The Bloomfield at Eastern Greene high school boys basketball game scheduled for tonight has been postponed, because both schools were closed Friday. EGHS athletic director Trevor McConnell said a make-up date will be announced later.

Linton man faces explosive charge

Paul Matthew Turpin, 37, of Linton, was arrested Wednesday in the courthouse on a warrant issued on a preliminary charge of possession of a regulated explosive by a convicted felon, a class C felony. Turpin was at the Greene County Courthouse for a hearing in another case, but there was a warrant out for his arrest and before the hearing began, Turpin was taken into custody. ...

The first day of winter Friday blew in with a fury with heavy winds and a ground covering of snow. Above, Bob Sedrowski, of Grand Rapids, Mich., was out in the morning shoveling his mother-in-law's sidewalk on C Street NE in Linton. At left, Gary Burnette, who lives on 10th Street NE was bundled up with a face mask to stay warm as he shoveled his sidewalk. At right, a Christmas holiday decorated mailbox on 12th Road in Linton got an unexpected delivery of snow after the door was left open...
