Greene County man assaulted by inmate at WVCF

CARLISLE -- The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) was on total lockdown following an offender assault on a WVCF Correctional Officer Monday. Shortly before 8:30 a.m., Correctional Officer (CO) Benjamin Scott was attacked in a north side housing unit by offender Glen Young. Officer Scott, 43, was rushed by ambulance to Terre Haute Regional Hospital suffering from facial fractures and related injuries. Greene County emergency personnel are gearing up for the Seventh Annual National Night Out scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2. John William White, 64, of Lyons, passed away on Friday, July 1 at his residence in Lyons. Born August 21, 1951 in Linton, he was the son of William H. and Ruth L. (Wilcoxen) White Griffith. He served his country with the United States Army. Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Zondra (Mike) Bailey of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, Meagan and Cole Bailey of Bloomfield; one sister, Marsha Hasteman of Dugger; one brother, Ranny White of Linton; two half-brothers, Charles Griffith and Carl Griffith of Terre Haute; and three step-brothers, Ronnie Griffith of Virginia, David Griffith of Dugger and Rick Griffith of Kentucky.. ...

Linton Community Group serves free 4-H lunch

The Linton Community Group hosted its second annual free hot dog lunch at the 4-H Fair on Wednesday. According to group member Bob Waters, the LCG formed from the dissolved Linton Rotary Club, which had been doing the lunch for the past 65 years. "Every year we do this, we hear from parents that comment and say they remember when we did it when they were kids," Waters said. "The Rotary Club touched generations of people."...

Michael W. "Topsie" Leigh, age 60, of Linton, passed away at 7:21 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Terre Haute Union Hospital. He was born in Linton on Nov. 10, 1955, the son of Wesley Sr. and Joann (Carr) Leigh. After graduating from Dugger Union High School, Mike became a self-employed painter, working for many years throughout the Sullivan and Linton areas.
