Area basketball fans witnessed some good quality basketball this past season and those fans had the opportunity to watch a number of outstanding individual players. Each of the five area teams had at least two or three top players. And that distribution of basketball talent is reflected in this year’s Greene County Daily World All-Area basketball team selections...

Attendees of the Lady Wolverines’ home games this past season got a chance to see some potential stars of the future. During the halftimes, girls in White River Valley’s Biddy Ball program took the floor to entertain the fans with their skills. The Lady Bulldogs unleashed a powerful batting attack Tuesday night to rout visiting Martinsville (IL) 20-3 in softball. Union won its season opener by rapping out 15 hits. The Lady ‘Dogs committed only one error for the night. “It was a pretty good team win for our first game of the season,” said Union coach Shane Keller. “None of the girls was really nervous. They just came out and played a pretty good ball game. I was pretty proud of the 20 runs and 15 hits.”...

Members of the Memory Makers Quilt Club recently decided to use their talents to fufill what director Juanita Hoffman said they see as a ‘constant need’ in many communities. Robert Lee “Bob” Brookshire, 67, of Linton passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at his residence. Born Feb.19, 1950 in Linton, the son of William “Wimpy” and Marjorie (Malone) Brookshire. For a teenaged girl dealing with a congenital heart defect so severe she requires a heart transplant, Bloomfield’s Jaden Lauderdale holds more love inside her than most people whose hearts function fine.
