Senior center to honor past volunteers
JASONVILLE -- The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center will be honoring those senior center volunteers who have passed away or who are in nursing facilities on Saturday at the annual Jasonville High School-Shakamak High School homecoming celebration.
Senior center volunteers have been working hard collecting photographs and organizing them for display. A photo of past volunteers along with their name will be displayed.
Senior center volunteer Howard Lee came up with the idea to honor past volunteers.
"I think that everyone ought to know what we have done in the past," he said. "We're going downhill now simply because the people that used to come here are all gone now. We're not getting any new ones."
When looking through an old photo album, Lee said there are photos of volunteers who came to the center every day about 10 to 15 years ago.
"They're all gone now," he said.
The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center is open Monday through Friday. The center offers a variety of activities for seniors including euchre and bingo. A meal is served daily, and they have a pitch-in once a month to celebrate the month's birthday. Also, one evening a month they have a fun night.
On Saturday, the senior center will have restrooms open for the public.
