Union (Dugger) defeats county foe
Union (Dugger) improved to 13-7 with a 25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22 victory at Sullivan Thursday night.
"This is a big win," said Union (Dugger) coach Tammy Meurer. "This is a match we always get up for because one of our goals every year is to win the Sullivan County championship.
"They are a very good rival for us. It was a pretty competitive match. I was pleased with the way the girls played. We got down 5-1 in game one but we got back into it, one point at a time."
Junior setter Hilari Howard had 17 assists, 10 points, one ace, 12 kills, nine digs and one block. Kelsie Manuel tallied four points, one ace, 11 kills and 11 digs.
Cara Hale was credited with seven digs and Whitni Scott had 13 kills, 10 digs, five points and four aces.
Amanda Hathaway tallied 13 digs, 11 kills, six points and a block while MaKaylee Pirtle added two digs, one kill and one block.
Megan Gambill had 15 points, two aces, 24 assists and seven digs. Senior Ashlee Lovelace had a team-high three blocks to go with four points, one ace, six kills and 10 digs.
"I saw a lot of good things out there tonight," said Meurer. "It was good to see the girls bounce back after losing Tuesday at Shakamak.
"We definitely needed a good performance and the win."
The Lady Bulldogs will play at 6 p.m. Monday at Terre Haute North.
