Lady Cardinals fall to No. 4 Loogootee
Loogootee, ranked No. 4 in Class A, defeated Bloomfield 25-9, 25-11, 25-19 in a high school volleyball match at Glover Gymnasium Thursday night.
"We did play badly," said BHS coach Susie Schulte. "As night kept going on, we played well.
"I felt like we hit the ball better in the third game. We had a little more intensity tonight. We played the fourth-ranked team pretty well. They are a pretty good team and I was happy with the way the girls performed."
The Lady Cardinals (7-16) connected on 39 of 41 serves. Cassie O'Neall Shelby Gott and Kelsie Spelts all had seven points, Nikkole Thombleson six, Amelia Weddle four and Brooke Myers and Ciera Haywood each served three points.
"With the exception of one match, our serving has been very good this year," said Schulte.
Myers led with six kills. Thombleson was credited with four kills, one more than Abbie Humerickhouse. Leairra Thompson and Elyse Weddle both had one kill.
Elyse Weddle and Thompson both had two blocks. Myers and Humerickhouse each added one block..
O'Neall also collected 15 assists and seven digs.
Myers and Katelin Kinney each had six digs. Gott and Amelia Weddle three apiece, Spelts, two and Thompson and Elyse Weddle both added one.
Loogootee also won the JV contest 25-12, 25-24.
Christina Neill finished with three points, two digs, one block and six kills. Morgan Thomas added one dig.
Kate Price, a 5-6 sophomore, collected seven points, seven digs, two blocks and three kills. Britain Weatherholt finished with eight digs and eight points on serve.
Kaitlyn O'Neall had a team-high 10 digs and six points. Katie Walker ended up with 10 assists, seven points, two digs and one block.
Holly Zschedrich had five points and a dig while Lindsay Staten added five digs and three kills.
The Lady Cardinals will conclude its conference schedule at 6 p.m. Monday at Linton-Stockton.
