Washington rallied to defeat White River Valley 15-25, 25-12, 25-12, 25-16 in a high school volleyball match at Switz City Thursday night.

"You couldn't have asked for a better team on the floor in the first game," said WRV coach Becky Borter. "But I did not know who was on the floor for the final three games."

The Lady Wolverines dropped to 6-15.

"This was a tough loss," said Borter. "We had problems with communication and passing.

"As long as you have those problems, it is hard to function as a team. We just never got back into the game after the great start."

DeLaney Sanders was 11-for-11 serving and finished with three points, one ace, one assist, seven kills, two blocks and 11 digs. Carly Johnson had six kills and three digs.

Haylee Holtsclaw was credited with three points and three aces on 6 of 7 serving. She also added two digs.

Rachel Mowery was perfect serving -- 12 of 12 -- and finished with five points and eight digs.

"I thought Rachel played well," said Borter. "Her passing was better."

Kim Long had two kills and five digs. Tayler Kail had a team-high 15 kills to go with one block, 14 digs, one assists, one ace and two points (8 of 8 serving).

Mariah Edelman (three) and Stephanie Fougerousse (one) combined for four digs. Danielle Gardner had two kills and two digs.

Tasha Borter missed just once in 15 attempts on serve, finishing with eight points, 29 assists, six digs, three kills and one ace.

Senior Sadie Davis had 11 digs and three points on 7 of 8 serving.

WRV won the junior-varsity contest 25-18, 12-25, 15-14, improving to 7-8.

Edelman has seven points, five aces, four assists and one dig. Ashley Graves added five kills, six digs, three blocks and three points.

Kendra Brown finished with seven digs, two points and one assist. Tasha Baker was credited with eight digs, two points and an ace.

Miranda Dupire collected six assists, six points, one kill and an ace.

Amanda Harp (four) and Erica Lemmons (one) teamed up for five digs and Fougerousse had six points, one ace, five digs and two kills.

The Lady Wolverines will travel to Owen Valley Monday.
