The holiday season is a great time for giving

To the editor:

The Greene County Foundation would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual dinner a joyful occasion. We appreciate everyone who gives of their time, talent and treasure to help our community grow and to help those in need.

As you gather your family this holiday season, let's take hold of the precious time that we have together to talk about how we can do more to care for our community. This holiday season let's all live the legacy that we want to leave to our children and grandchildren. Let's shift our family culture from overdoing, over buying, overworking, and undergiving to those in need. Let's begin with changing the conversation this week with our families.

How might you and your family make a difference for those in need in our community? How might you and your family make a difference for the Greene County community forever?

Whether you choose to volunteer at the local soup kitchen, wrap a special toy for the Toys for Tots program, or make a generous donation to the Greene County Foundation or the Greene County United Way, make it a family project. Children learn more from our behavior than from our words. That wonderful feeling that comes from an act of giving can, and should, be inherited by all of your children as a part of your family legacy.

Remember that we don't give because we're rich, we're rich because we give.
