Citizens need to make youth center a reality

Monday, December 17, 2007

To the Editor:

Monday night's Linton City Council meeting turned into a lively discussion, about the proposed Youth Center.

Not everybody is in agreement, that the Conservation Club is the best place to locate such a project. Many other sites were suggested, but the powers that be, seemed determined to settle on the Conservation Club site. A lot of money will be moving through a lot of hands, on the way to bringing this project to fruition.

My question was, what are the views of the youth, who will benefit from this project? Has their input been solicited? Are they enthused enough about the center to use it? History shows the previous attempts to provide a center fizzled, due to a lack of patronage.

Maybe the Youth have the insight to make this project succeed. Perhaps involvement by parents would be helpful.

Speak to the mayor about this. Discover the facts and give him your thoughts on this subject. After all, they are your children and don't they deserve a place of their own, for the activities of their choice? I think all citizens of Linton/Stockton should be interested in this project. The youth are our future. If we turn our backs on them now, why shouldn't they do likewise to us later?

C'mon citizens, get involved in this one. Do your share to see that the youth get the right place to gather.

Thank you for listening.
