What are your memories of former Linton Mayor Jimmie K. Wright, who died Dec. 27?

Monday, December 31, 2007

"When it happened, I lost my composure. He was like a brother to me because I was with him so much. I cared for him and it's hard to put that in words."

-- Nigel Lehman

"Jim and I went back to when he was 5 years olds. We were raised together in the same neighborhood ... we played and fought and did everything together. He was just a precious friend. People have a lot of acquaintances, but very few friends."

-- Jack Shelton

"Jimmie was a great mayor and a good friend. He was tirelessly devoted to the people of Linton and his effectiveness in office earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow mayors and others who worked with him throughout the state."

-- U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh

"It think both of us understood the situation we faced as chairmen during the election process. Over the years, I respected him and I am satisfied that he respected me. Probably both of us had the same goals -- if you bypassed the elections -- to help Greene County the best they could. He and I were very good friends and we respected one another."

-- Lavon Yoho

  • Although, I had known Jimmie K for several years it was on a rare ocassion that I had the opportunity to work with him. However, on those ocassions I greatly admired and respected the way he could control a situation or meeting to get the business taken care of. He truly was a great man!

I, along with many, will miss his presence, his wit and his demeanor. Although, I know he is in a better place now and I'm sure that he and the Lord will still be taking care of business as usual.

My heart goes out to the Wright family and they will be in my prayers through out the new year.

  • WHILE I'M A NOBODY IN THE LINTON COMMUNITY I LIKE TO STILL SAY I'AM A PART OF IT. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS AND WE ALL AGREE THAT THE LINTON PARK SHOULD BE RENAMED AFYER MAYOR JIM WRIGHT. HE WAS A LONGTIME FRIEND OF MY FATHER AND WHEN DAD SPOKE OF MISTER MAYOR IT WAS ALWAYS WITH RESPECT.SO TO ANY OF THE BIGGER PEOPLE OUT THERE IN LINTON I ASK YOU TO CONSIDER RENAMING THE PARK OR THE HIGHWAY 54 GOING THROUGH LINTON . THE WRIGHT HIGHWAY OR WRIGHT PARKWAY OR THE WRIGHT CITY PARK, JIMMIE K. WRIGHT PARKWAY. JUST HONOR HIM WITH SOMETHING MAJOR.
