Letter to the Editor

Food drive coordinator says thanks for the support

To the Editor:

On behalf of the postal employees of the Linton Post Office and the food pantries involved in the National Letter Carriers' Association annual food drive, I would like to thank the people of Linton for the generous outpouring of non-perishable food items. We collected approximately 3,700 pounds of food.

The effort was very worthwhile!

Volunteers, including members from Saron United Church of Christ, St. Peter's Catholic Church, Roosevelt Mission, the Bibleway Community Center, and the Church Without Limits assisted in the drive resulting in a pick-up truckload of food for each of the participating food pantries.

A special thanks to Angell's and Sav-a-lot grocery stores, American Rental, McDonald's and Movie Gallery for allowing the placement of a donation collection cart in the store; to the Greene County Daily World for news coverage; and to the following volunteers: Darla Lewis and Ron Perigo; Roosevelt Mission: Mike Ellington and Charles Griffin; St. Peter's: Joe Montgomery, Kristen Evans, Samatha Helms and Toni Davis; and Church Without Limits: Wanda Braun.

What would we have done without you?

The success of this event resulted from much community support, generous donations, caring volunteers and hard working postal employees. All of the food collected stayed in the Linton community; so, pantries are well stocked to help our friends and neighbors in need during the summer months.

It's great to be part of such a giving community!
