You can enjoy music, help Indiana Blood Center at the same time

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Look for something new and something old at this year's Linton Music Festival -- which kicks off Friday at 5:30 p.m.

New this year is the Indiana Blood Center's Bloodmobile.

That's right, you can help others by giving blood from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the fest in Linton's Humphreys Park.

Jared Albright, LMF organizer, explained, "They (Indiana Blood Center) had approached us about it and thought it would be a good event to bring the Bloodmobile to. We're pretty excited that they would think of us."

This will be the first time for the Bloodmobile to be at the local fest, but if all goes well look for it at future Linton Music Festivals.

"We'll bring it back (in the future) as long as they would like to return. We hope they have a good turnout for donors," Albright said.

According to www.indianablood.org, most people are eligible to donate blood.

Donors must:

* Be at least 16 years of age (Donors under the age of 17 may only donate whole blood, and must have a signed Indiana Blood Center Parental/Guardian Consent Form).

* Weigh at least 110 pounds.

* Pass a brief mini-physical and medical history review.

* Bring picture I.D.

* Follow normal eating patterns before donating.

Look for the Bloodmobile to be in the front half of Humphreys Park on Saturday, Albright said.

Also new to this year's fest will be the chance to win an Orange County Chopper, he noted. The Indiana State Police Alliance will raffle off the chopper.

The popular inflatables will also return to the three-day fest this year.

It's $5 for a full day of fun on the inflatable course, Albright noted. This year there'll be seven inflatables instead of only four or five.

There'll also be minimum and maximum height/weight requirements on the inflatables.

The fourth annual Music Fest will kick-off Friday at 5:30 p.m. and run through Sunday. More than 30 musical acts are scheduled to blast Humphreys Park with music of all genres during the event.

  • Muggsy-

As a donor myself, I agree.

    To all readers-

Follow that old motto... It is better to give than to receive.

So when it is time to give, all who are able should remember that the person receiving will forever be grateful.
