Car wash for Miners
There will be a fund-raising car wash for the Linton-Stockton High School football team at 10 a.m. Saturday at Auto Zone.
Proceeds will be used to feed the team on Thursday nights.
Bloomfield match moved
The Bloomfield at Terre Haute North volleyball match will be played at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.
The varsity match will be played first.
Racing continues at Bakersfield
Bakersfield Raceway Park in Linton has races every Friday night. On Aug. 29, BRP welcomes the Indiana Micro Sprint series to the track.
Some of the top Micro Sprint racers from all over the state will be competing.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing at 8:30 p.m.
Mini-golf tournament
The Putting Greene in Bloomfield will have a mini-golf tournament on September 20-21.
Sign-ups run through September 14.

Youth football rally
Bloomfield Youth Football will be having a pep rally on Friday, Aug. 29 at the Bloomfield Fire Station on Mill St.
The rally is set to begin at 6 p.m.. The community is invited to come out and meet the players, cheerleaders, coaches and the numerous volunteers that make up the league.
The league will have concessions available, so bring your lawn chair and come show your support the youth of Bloomfield.
Softball tournament
There will be a coed slow pitch softball tournament at the Linton FOP field September 13-14.
Entry fee is $150 per team.
Proceeds will benefit the Linton-Stockton junior class.
Teams will consist of five men and five women.

Big Mac Golf
The 12th annual Big Mac Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton.
A Calcutta Auction and steak dinner will take place Saturday for those who participate. Proceeds from this event go to the Ronald McDonald House of Indianapolis, which is a home away from home for families of critically ill children being serviced by the hospitals in the Indy area.
Jerry and Gayle Margraf direct this event, which has raised over $34,00 in the past 11 years.

Hoop tournament
The Springs Valley boys basketball team will host a 3-on-3 tournament on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the high school.

Shakamak passes
The Metropolitian School District of Shakamak would like to announce athletic ticket prices for the 2008-09 school year.
Admission price for varsity and junior varsity volleyball is $4.
For the varsity cross country, the price will be $5 per car load at the Shakamak Invitational.
Boys and girls varsity and junior varsity basketball will cost $5, $3 for student pre sale.
Admission for freshmen basketball is $2.
Varsity and junior varsity baseball and softball will cost $4 with varsity coed track costing $3.
Junior High volleyball and basketball admission will be $3 with junior high coed track costing $2 and the boys and girls fifth and sixth grade basketball games will cost $2.
All sports passes (good for 5-12 sporting events except for conference and IHSAA tourneys) are available in the high school office between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and at home varsity volleyball games.
Cost for a family pass is $140. An adult pass is $65 with a senior citizen pass costing $35. A student (K-12) pass is $25.
Miners baseball bash
The Linton-Stockton baseball team will have a entertainment and games at Humprey's Park on Saturday, Sept. 6.
A horseshoe tournament will get underway starting at 10 a.m. with registration at 9 a.m.
A cornhole tournament will also be played at 11 a.m. with registration at 10 a.m.
Cash prizes will be awarded for both tournaments.
D.J. Todd Landis will provide music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch available at this time as well.
There will be a hog roast at the rotary shelter at 6 p.m. with live music starting at 6:30 p.m. at the band shelter starring Gregg Eaton and the Athletic Supporters.
All proceeds will go to the indoor hitting facility fund.
VU baseball showcase
The Vincennes University baseball team will conduct a 2008
Junior/Senior Fall Showcase on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Trailblazer diamond. The workout is to provide an opportunity for top high school players who are serious about their future in baseball to showcase their talent in front of the Vincennes coaching staff and other college coaches from around the area.
The showcase will begin at 9 a.m. The pre-registration fee is $45 and $55 on the day of the event. The fee includes a camp T-Shirt.
The Showcase will be similar to a pro-style workout, and will
include all of the following: 60-yard sprint, infield/outfield, on field
hitting (weather permitting), pitching including live game situations, game and a tour of the VU campus.
Players should bring cleats, glove, hat and baseball pants. They
must be a high school junior or senior to attend. The showcase is limited to the first 64 players who sign up.

Former SHS players at Busch Stadium
Former Shakamak High School baseball players Steven McNabb, Ridge Inman and Timothy Betts, who are all now members of the Olney Central College baseball team in Olney, Ill, will be playing at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo on Sunday, Sept. 7.
Olney Central College will square off against Lakeland College after the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals play at 1:15 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased for the Astros and Cardinals game as well as the OCC game through the OCC athletic office. For more information call (618) 395-7777.
Miner Pride Passes
Linton-Stockton High School athletic director Charlie Karazsia would like to remind parents, students and fans that Miner Pride Passes will again be available starting Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Family passes for grades 7-12 will cost $200.
The family passes for grades 9-12 cost $140.
The family passes for grades 7-8 will cost $60.
Individual passes for grades 9-12 will cost $60.
Student passes for grade 9-12 will cost $25.
High school letterman can obtain a student pass for $12.50.

Bloomfield season tickets
The Bloomfield High School athletic department are selling the All Sport Season Pass in the athletic office. The pass is good for all junior high and high school sporting events excluding IHSAA tournaments and conference tournaments. The passes can be purchased as a family pass for $125, individual adult for $50 and for Bloomfield students for $25.

The sports department of the Greene County Daily World encourages all area sports coaches to submit your results and photos.
First and last names of participants must be submitted.

Bass Tournaments at Shakamak
Shakamak State Park will be holding bass fishing tournaments throughout 2008 that are open to the public.
There will be open team jackpots. Cost is $25 per team per event.
There will be a 10-fish limit. Slot limit applies, including under 12 inches or over 15.
The next tournament is Friday, Sept. 12. Participants must register at Kickapoo ramp by 6:45 p.m. with competition set to begin at 7 p.m.
The final date will be Saturday, Sept. 27.
The Sept. 27 event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with registration deadline of 7:45 a.m.
