Linton Council to learn about stimulus package at Monday's meeting

Friday, March 6, 2009

It's a light agenda for Monday's Linton City Council meeting.

Linton Mayor Tom Jones will provide an update on the rural housing stimulus package.

The city of Linton, Four Rivers, Indiana Housing IHCDA and Milestone Ventures have applied for a $5.2 million grant through a rural housing program.

The program is funded through an $84 million dollar stimulus package that was released to the state in January, Jones noted. Gov. Mitch Daniels took $34 million off the top for home foreclosures and the remaining $50 million goes toward rural housing.

When it comes to annexation, Jones may give an update.

The community development team will draft letters which will be sent out to those affected by the annexation.

"We hope that everybody is very much in favor of this (annexation) it gives ample opportunity for growth," Jones added.

Expect an informational meeting on annexation in late April or early in May, Jones noted. The meeting will be open to the public.

The following items are also on the agenda:

* A presentation from Arbor Education Training-- which provides employment and training services through IMPACT to help those on public assistance achieve self-sufficiency.

* Rev. Mike Roth will provide information on a utility assistance program.

* Greene County Humane Society.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Linton City Hall.

  • Keep the city where it is. Dont want it out here, higher taxes is all it would do for the land owners. Why dont the city try to do something to help dowmtown or the westside instead of moving east. Walmart is the worst thing that ever happen to Linton. Local money leaves every day. That Walmart parking lot use to raise FOOD for everyone. Now kick me off cause I stepped on somebodies toes.

  • wonder what will happen to the taxes to the rest of the citizens in grant township if jones gets his way. bet taxes go up in grant to cover the lost taxes that the city will get. don't let mayor jones lead the people of the east side of linton to the wolves
