Bloomfield Spring Carnival Friday

'The Bloomfield P.T.O. will be hosting a Spring Carnival on Friday, March 13, in the old gym and concession area. The carnival will include game booths, a silent auction, face painting, candy bar walk, food booth, prizes and other fun activities. Tickets sold in advance are 5 for $1. P.T.O. will sell advance tickets at the school on March 12 and 13 in the elementary classrooms. Children should bring their ticket money in an envelope marked with their name and how many tickets they want. Tickets for the games will be 25 cents each the night of the carnival. The carnival games will be open 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., with the prize table open til 8:30 p.m.

Book sale

The Friends of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday in the library's community room at 125 S. Franklin Street in Bloomfield. In addition to a very large selection of fiction and non-fiction for adults and children, there are several VCR tapes in this sale. Most paperbacks are 25¢, hardbacks 50¢, and VCR tapes $1.

Lyons Town Council

The Lyons Town Council's regular monthly meeting has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. March 17 at the community building.

Greene County Election Board

The Greene County Election Board will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the voter registration office at the courthouse.

Paxton Church Revival

Paxton Church of God will hold revival March 22-24 at 7 p.m. The church is located at 4286 S. County Round 100 E. in Paxton. Rev. Jerry Adams is special guest speaker.

Biscuit and gravy breakfast

The Jasonville Senior Center, located at 145 1/2 S. Lawton St., is hosting a "Nutrition Awareness Day" at 10:30 a.m. today. The program is sponsored by Generations. Jean R Borders will speak.

4-H Dog Club to meet Monday

The Greene County 4-H Magic Mutts Dog Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 16 at the fairgrounds. Anyone in grades 3 through 12 is eligible to join. Members will teach their dogs basic obedience which includes sit, down, stay and healing. Practices will be held on Monday evenings starting at 6:30 p.m. and will last about an hour. 4-Hers will need to bring their dog to each of these practices and the meeting on the 16th. A 6-foot leash, buckle collar and a water bowl the dog will need to be provided. Anyone interested in showing their dog at this year's fair must attend these practices. All dogs must be at least six months old, be owned by a member of the immediate family and be current on all vaccinations. Food Drive

FLAMES youth group is collecting non-perishable items for the Central Greene County Food Pantry. Youth will be outside the Bloomfield Dairy Queen and IGA accepting food donations from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The Food Pantry needs canned soups, vegetables, fruit, beans, and tuna; boxed food like Mac & cheese, hamburger helper, instant mashed potatoes, pancake mix, crackers and cereal; and jars of peanut butter, jelly, and syrup. Anyone attending the Emmaus Gathering Friday night or the Lenten Breakfast Saturday morning at the Bloomfield First Baptist Church is encouraged to bring Food Pantry donations.

Condensed Seder

Jews for Jesus will present a Condensed Seder at the Bloomfield First Baptist Church on Monday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. This Passover experience weaves the story of the Exodus together with the life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus. Jesus' words from the Last Supper come alive as each Hebraic item from the Passover meal is carefully explained. Communion even becomes more meaningful as you see the link between the ancient Festival of Redemption and Christ as the Lamb of God. Youth Gobbler scouting event

A youth gobbler scouting event will be held from 6:30 a.m. - noon on April 11 at Minnehaha FWA, Hillenbrand FWA, Chinook FWA and Fairbanks Landing FWA. Youth will be able to scout for turkeys on all four properties and can return to Minnehaha office for special activities that will include hunting safety, strategies, and wild turkey biology. Sign-up at Minnehaha office during reserved turkey hunt registration. Space is limited

Reserved youth turkey hunt

A reserved youth turkey hunt will be held April 18 and 19. Sign up March 16 - 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Minnehaha office to hunt at Minnehaha FWA, Hillenbrand FWA, Chinook FWA, or Fairbanks Landing FWA. A limited number of youth hunters will be allowed to hunt on each property per day.

Bloomfield NARFE

Bloomfield NARFE will have a 11:30 a.m. lunch meeting Tuesday at Stoll's in Linton. All retirees and guests are welcome to attend.

Moriah's Ride

American Legion #196 in Bloomfield will hold a ride on March 21. Sign-in at 11:30 a.m., depart at 12:15 p.m. Cost is $15 rider or $20 a couple. Free cookout for all riders after the event. Non-riders $5 per person. Public is welcome.

Bicknell Kiwanis Club

The Bicknell Kiwanis Club will host a pancake breakfast Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon (EDT). The event will be held at the Bicknell Fire Station. Meals include all you can eat pancakes, sausage and coffee or juice. The charge for the breakfast is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. All proceeds go to the Bicknell Kiwanis Club to award two scholarships to area students. Girl Scout Open House

A Girl Scout open house will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Cincinnati Christian Church. The event will inform future and past Girl Scouts on scouting today. Intro to Microsoft Word 2003 class

Learn the basics of Microsoft Word at the Greene County Learning Center. The class includes starting Word, parts of the window, creating, formatting, editing and saving documents, using spell check, inserting graphics and photos, print options and how to use the Help function. Instructor Dena Irwin will give you a solid foundation is MS Word basics in a fun atmosphere.

Greene-Sullivan Special Ed Cooperative

The Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session to discuss confidential student records, information about prospective employees at 8:30 a.m. today with the regular meeting to follow at 10 a.m. in the conference room at 77 "A" St., N.E., Linton, Indiana.

Shakamak School Board

The MSD of Shakamak Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school media center and at 6 p.m. in executive session in the central office conference room.

Scotland Cemetery

Scotland Cemetery clean-up is scheduled for March. The cemetery board requests that all flowers, wreaths, hooks, hangers, lights, etc. be removed from the graves. Only those attached to the stone and above the headstone will be kept.

Basket bingo

Saron Church in Linton will hold basket bingo Thursday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for 20 games and extra cards are available at the door. Bloomfield Rotary chili supper/auction

Bloomfield Rotary will conduct a chili supper/auction March 19 at the Bloomfield High School cafeteria. Meal at 6 p.m. auction at 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit rotary scholarships. Tickets are available at REMC or from any rotary member. Cost is $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Contact any rotary member if you would like to donate to the auction. Drawing for $100 in groceries will also take place during the event.

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will have a scrubs sale from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wednesday in the hospital lobby. Public is welcome. Scrubs, uniforms, shoes, small equipment for sale. Cash, checks and major credits will be accepted.

Hunter education will be conducted from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Triple H Gun Club in Linton.

Edwardsport Chili Supper

A chili supper fundraiser will be conducted at 5 p.m. April 4 at the First Baptist Church in Edwardsport. Tickets are $5 for adult and $3 for children 12 and under.

Breakfast at Glenburn

Glenburn Community Center will have a biscuits and gravy, waffle, pancake and bacon breakfast from 8 - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Cost is $5. All proceeds benefit the Glenburn Community and Wellness Center. For additional information contact the center at 847-3509.

Northeast kindergarten round-up

Children who are five years of age on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to register for kindergarten at the Northeast School Corporation. Dates of registration are as follows; Farmersburg Elementary March 31, Shelburn Elementary April 1, Dugger Elementary April, 2 and Hymera Elementary April 3. Time of registration is from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. For more information contact one of the schools.

Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be at the Center Township Volunteer Fire Department today through noon next Wednesday.

Baby-sitter Training at Bloomfield Library

American Red Cross Baby-sitter Training will be offered at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library main branch on March 23 and 24 from 1-5 p.m.. for students age 10 - 13. Learn child care tips, first aid and CPR. Cost is $30 per person. Please register by March 9. At least six participants are needed.

Tri-Kappa selling cheeseballs

CGCMA Lenten schedule

The pastors of the churches which comprise the Central Greene County Ministerial Association have mapped out the course for the upcoming Lenten season. Several special events are planned. They include -- March 14, Lenten Breakfast at First Baptist, 8 a.m.; March 21, Lenten Breakfast at Mineral UMC, 8 a.m.; March 28, Lenten Breakfast at Faith Christian, 8 a.m.; April 4, Lenten Breakfast at Bloomfield UMC, 8 a.m. The Lenten Breakfasts all begin at 8 a.m. and end by 9 a.m. They will feature original dramas centered around the NOW campaign themes: Love, Worship, Forgive, Pray, Serve and Believe. Longaberger basket bingo

The White River Valley Volleyball Boosters will conduct a Longaberger basket bingo March 18 at the Lyons Community Building. Fairview Cemetery clean-up

Fairview Cemetery clean-up is now underway. The city of Linton asks that all flowers, wreaths, hangers, hooks, etc. be removed from the graves. Only those attached to the stone will be kept. To retrieve any decorations contact Cemetery Superintendent Larry Fulford. Items will be taken to the caretaker office area for your convenience.

Sonshine Shop

The Greene County Soil Waste Management District and Recycling Center is partnering with the Sonshine Shop on 14 N. Washington St. in Worthington. There is a collection site for paper, books, magazines, plastic, aluminum cans, steel food cans and cardboard located in the back of the Sonshine Shop by the blue building. Residents are asked to drop off recyclable materials only and do not leave trash at this site.

Tri Kappa cheeseballs

Road closed

County Road 100 South between 250 West and 100 West in Fairplay Township will be closed until further notice for bridge replacement.
