The Linton-Stockton High School boys golf team shot a 325, which tied them for eighth place at the Riddell National Bank Invitational, which took place Saturday at the Forest Park Golf Course in Brazil.

"I believe we shot better than we did last year," said Linton-Stockton coach Bart Beard, whose Miners were seventh with a round of 329 at the same tournament in 2008. "I was very pleased with the way the guys played, especially considering this was our first match and the conditions.

"It was very wet and very windy. We were playing lift, clean and place and we were not even playing out of the bunkers because of all the water. You got to lay it out."

Edgewood won the event with a four-over-par 289, snapping Terre Haute South's five-year winning streak.

Edgewood's Harrison Carmichael was low medalist with a four-under-par 67.

Linton-Stockton senior Jordan Bradbury finished one-under-par 70. He carded a 32 on the front and a 38 on the back to finish tied for second low-medalist with Zach Hosking of Terre Haute South.

"Jordan got off to a great start," said Beard. "He struggled just a bit down the stretch.

"But nobody plays a round where they don't hit a bad shot or two. But what impressed me the most was the way Jordan stayed focused. That is the best round I have seen him play. He is capable of playing like that all year."

Derrick Barker shot 80, Chase Rhoten 85, Stefan Sparks 90 and Luke Jerrells 97.

"Derrick really stepped up and had an excellent round," said Beard. "Chase played really well on 14 holes. He had two or three double bogeys and a triple. It was still a great round for him.

"Stefan and Luke played really well for their first matches. Stefan had not played before, even in junior high. They both played well."

Beard said there still is a lot of competition within the team to see who can break into the top five.

"We have about four kids that are within three strokes of qualifying," said Beard. "I think that is going to create a lot of competition and should make us a better team.

"We hung tough with teams that we are going to be competing with at the sectional. And our ultimate goal is to get out of the sectional. We have the physical talent. We have to continue to work on our mental game."

The Miners will host Cloverdale Thursday.
