Linton library board to meet

The Linton Public Library Board of Trustees will conduct its regular board meeting Thursday at the Linton Public Library at 6 p.m. This meeting is open to the public.

LSHS class of 1979

The Linton-Stockton class of 1979 will celebrate its 30th year class reunion with dinner and live music July 3 at the Old Bank in Linton. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a mixer and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per person and $40 per couple. E-mail your confirmation and contact information to classof79@comcast.net. If you cannot attend please send your information for further updates. A family picnic has also been suggested as an event for the weekend and suggestions are being encouraged.

Gospel sing

The First Church of God located on State Road 54 East in Linton will host a gospel sing at 6 p.m. on Sunday featuring the Masters Bouquet. Refreshments will be served afterward. This event is free and open to the public.

1960-70 LSHS class reunion

The deadline for advanced tickets at $20 per person for the 1960-70 Linton-Stockton High School class reunion has been extended to June 6. The reunion will be July 3 at the Linton Elks. Linton Moose

Linton Moose will have a fish and shrimp dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited, and money will be donated to charity.

Linton-Stockton School Board

The Linton-Stockton School Board of Trustees will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. on June 1 at the administration office.

Gospel music

Randy Cowden of Bloomington will perform gospel music at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at Kentucky Ridge Church. Everyone is welcome. The church is located three miles west of the Bloomington Crane gate on State Road 45. For more information call (812)325-7767.

5th Sunday Sing

Koleen Union Church will host the 5th Sunday sing at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Any groups that would like to participate are welcome.

Switz City Central alumni golf outing

A golf outing for Switz City Central alumni, guests and friends will be June 12 at Phil Harris Golf Course. This event is one day prior to the SCC alumni reunion on June 13. The outing will start at 10 a.m. with the following rates: Nine holes $10, 18 holes $16, and a cart $14. Proceeds will help to find the SCC Alumni scholarship fund. Greene County 4-H Horse and Pony

Greene County 4-H Horse and Pony will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday. You can bring horses, and State Fair entry forms will be available.

Jasonville F&AM Lodge 530

Jasonville F&AM Lodge 530 will conduct a double F.C. degree June 4. They will eat at 6 p.m. and work at 7 p.m. Visiting brethren are welcome.

Delta Theta Tau alumna will meet at 2 p.m. on June 4 at the Bloomfield residence of Marie Farmer.

Book sale

The Friends of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Thursday in the library's community room at 125 S. Franklin Street, Bloomfield. In addition to a large selection of fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults, there will be many magazines. Most paperbacks are 25 cents, hardbacks 50 cents, magazines 10 cents.

Four Rivers Board of Directors

Today is the last day to register for Vincennes University summer classes at the Community Learning Center of Greene County. In response to local workforce needs Ivy Tech will offer a certificate in Payroll Accounting and one in Microsoft Certified Office Applications Specialist. Each program is: Transferable into Ivy, Tech degree programs, Eligible for Financial Aid, Taught on-site at the learning center, Meets local workforce demand, Completed in three semesters, and Meets two evenings a week.

Vacation Bible School

First Baptist Church in Bloomfield, 500 Lincoln, will host a Vacation Bible School on May 31- June 4 at 6 p.m. For more information call 384-4859.

Linton trash pick up

Linton trash pick-up will run a day late during Memorial Day week.

Scotland Cemetery

The Scotland Cemetery Association will meet June 15. All memorial decorations on the ground should be removed by June 15 and all decorations in vases should be secured so as not to come out when the wind blows.

Coin Club

Greene County Coin Club will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the 4-H Building. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Fairview Cemetery clean-up

All Memorial Day decorations must be removed by June 7 at Fairview Cemetery. If workers remove them you can claim them at the custodian office.

Vacation Bible School

Antioch Christian Church will host a Vacation Bible School at 6 p.m. on June 1-5. For more information call Robin Baker at 384-3670. The church is located on U.S. 231 in Bloomfield.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild

The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. June Query will be hostess.

Eastern Height Utilities

Eastern Height Utilities, Inc. has its 2008 CCR brochure available to customers at the office at 316 N. Washington St. in Bloomfield. The report has information about the quality of customer drinking water.

Summer camp

Worthington Assembly of God is offering Kids Day Camp this summer for the months of June and July for children preschool through fifth grade. Camp days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 - noon. Cost is $80 a month with a $10 registration fee. Camp will consist of weekly crafts, daily games and movies and story times, bus trips to the park.

Vacation Bible School

Worthington Assembly of God will host a Vacation Bible School on June 22-26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for ages preschool to sixth grade. Crafts, snacks, games and lessons daily. Book sale in Worthington

The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

Mini cheer camp

A mini cheer camp will be conducted for children ages 4 - 10 years old from noon - 3 p.m. on June 1-4 at the Linton-Stockton Junior High gym. Register at is at 11:30 a.m. on June 1. The last day of the camp will be performance day and at 1 p.m. and parents are invited to watch cheerleaders compete. Cost is $20 per girl. Call Shauna Kendall at 847-2320 if you have any questions.

Linton yard sales

Linton's first ever city-wide yard sale event is slated to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. No maps will be available but anyone wanting to participate by having a sale should feel free to do so. The Switz City Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. on June 2 at the fire station located at the corner of Charlotte Avenue and Second Street. The public is invited to attend. For more information please call 659-2819 or 659-2077.

Scotland community yard sales

Scotland's annual community yard sales will be from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on June 13. Breakfast will be served from 7 - 10 a.m. in the community room of the fire station by the Scotland United Methodist Church. The Scotland Full Gospel Church will serve sandwiches, desserts and drinks in the Fellowship Hall throughout the day. A bake sale will be hosted by the Ladies Aide of Scotland United Methodist Church. Maps for the yard sale will be available at the fire station on June 13.

Lyons town-wide sales

The town of Lyons will host its annual town-wide yard sale Friday and Saturday. Anyone who wishes to participate may call town hall at 659-2521 to be placed on the map. Please leave name, physical address and items of interest you will have at the sale and a phone number if leaving a message. Maps will be available at Lyons Value Mart and Lyons Petro Plus on the days of the sale.

Wildflower identification workshop

Friends of Goose Pond is sponsoring a Wildflower Identification workshop June 20 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Linton Public Library. The workshop will teach beginning plant identification skills, focusing particularly on wildflowers found on Goose Pond and Beehunter Marsh prairies. The workshop is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about identifying wildflowers on their own. Rich Scott from Friends of Turkey Run and Shades State Parks will lead the workshop. The cost to attend is $15 and the book Newcomb's Wildflower Guide will be available for use during the class. If participants wish to purchase their own guide, they will be available for purchase. New hours for Jasonville Housing Authority

The Jasonville Housing Authority has new hours. The office will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 2-4 p.m. You may leave messages at 665-3692 or e-mail jasonvillehousing@att.net . There is also an outside drop slot where messages can be left at the office, 110 North Meridian St.

Diagnostic Screening Echocardiograms

The Care Group, cardiologists from Indianapolis, and Greene County General Hospital will offer free screening Echocardiograms to local incoming freshman or any other high school students in the county and Dugger that has not received one in the past. This diagnostic test is to help detect cardiac problems that may go unnoticed and will be from 3 - 7 p.m. on June 23 on the second floor of the hospital in Linton. Consent forms are required and can be picked up at the Greene County Daily World in Linton, Greene County Ambulance service in Bloomfield or the hospital's administration office in Linton. Students must have this completed, signed and with them prior to the exam or their parent must accompany them.

Humane Society coupon books

The Greene County Humane Society has a few Shop-A-Thon Coupon Books remaining from its fundraiser. Booklets are $44.95 or save $5 each when you buy two or more.

Switz City Alumni

Shakamak class of 1967 to meet

The 1967 Shakamak High School graduates should mark Sept. 25 on their calendars as a 60th birthday celebration is planned. The catered dinner/party will be at Shakamak State Park's log cabin starting at 4 p.m. with dinner scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner will be $9 per person. Peavey Cemetery

Spring clean-up for the Peavey Cemetery is under way. Wreaths and other such winter decorations need to be removed prior to this date. Memorial decorations that interfere with mowing should be removed prior to June 15.

Bible-based meeting at FLC

A Bible-based meeting at the Family Life Center on the east side of the courthouse square in Bloomfield will take place on Wednesday nights from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. It is offering a 90-day workbook called "A Daily Choice" by Overcomers Recovery Support for overcoming life controlling problems. Bloomfield Food pantry
