To the Editor:

Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center has received three paintings from the family of Muriel Baughman. The paintings are a gift from Donald's widow, Mrs. Hazel Baughman of Lafayette.

Muriel Jolley Baughman lived in West Lafayette, and had an active interest in art early in life. She attended Purdue University, where she met Ray G. Baughman, a Linton native. They were married, had one son, Donald, and lived all their lives in Linton.

Muriel was a member of Tri Kappa. Her paintings were on display in the sorority's statewide art shows, and appear in private collections. She had studied in the Famous Artist School by correspondence, and attended classes and workshops with well-known artists of that time.

Also in the permanent collection paintings by Dale French are on display, some rendered in oil and some watercolor. Miss French taught art at Linton-Stockton High School for many years. Donna Kluesner, Melissa Shepherd, Mrs. Long, and former students have donated some of her work. One of the ceramic pieces was made by Miss French, the rest are on loan from Ruby Houldson as her children made them when they were students of Miss French.

Father Hilary Vieck's estate donated several of his oil paintings. He was a prolific painter, and enjoyed nature and landscape in all seasons. The Center is happy to have a sample of his artwork.

The family of James Kluesner loaned the Center his pottery wheel, several pieces of his pottery and some of his oil paintings. He also wrote poetry, some of which is displayed with his pottery. He was a man of many talents.

The Carnegie Heritage and Art Center is very appreciative of all the donations and support that the community has extended in our effort to preserve and rehabilitate the 100-year-old building that is a place of memorable experiences for many citizens of Linton.
