Writer lauded for community concern

To the Editor:

In a recent column, Timberly Ferree wrote some glowing words about people in the community who submit information to be published in "Community Notes." As two of those people mentioned, we would like to respond with a few words in praise of Timberly.

Timberly is a joy to work with. When we submit articles via e-mail, she always takes the time to respond and let us know that the submission was received. One isn't left to wonder if the articles made it to their destination or were lost in cyberspace.

Even better, she doesn't just print it and forget it. She first goes over the information and checks facts. For instance, on one occasion when she was taking information over the phone, she had written almost the entire article before it became apparent that she wasn't just taking notes, but was typing it while talking, a time-saving ability. Later she called back and confirmed a couple of quotes before setting the type. She is not only efficient, but also pays attention to details.

Most importantly, Timberly is community minded, and one gets the feeling that she wants each and every one of the events she writes about to be successful. She certainly does her part to make that happen, and we are most appreciative of her efforts!

Thanks for kind expressions

We wish to thank everyone for their flowers, cards, visits, prayers, food and kind expressions of sympathy for Delmar Wayne (Scotty) Scott. We especially wish to thank the Wright Fire Department, Lebanon Church for dinner and the Cox Funeral Home. Their sympathetic attitude and the lovely atmosphere were a great comfort. Wayne would have appreciated the many tributes that were shared with us by friends and the touching ministering of Rev. Keith Pope and the military rites.

It was not the senior citizens

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not blame others. But, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took:

The melody out of music

The pride out of appearance

The romance out of love

The commitment out of marriage

The responsibility out of parenthood

The togetherness out of family

The learning out of education

The dedication out of employment

The prudence out of spending, or

The ambition out of achievement.

And, we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated the patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!!! Does anyone under the age of 50 know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner? Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and price in their hearts as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts! Remember. . . inside every older person is a younger person wondering what happened.

Yes, I am a Senior Citizen!

I'm the life of the party, even if it last until 8 P.M.

I'm very good at opening childproof caps with a hammer.

I'm usually interested in going home before I get to where I am going.

I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing you're saying.

I'm very good at telling stories; over and over and over.

I'm very aware that other people's grandchildren are not as cute as mine.

I'm so cared for-long term care, eye care, private care, dental care.

I'm not grouchy; I just don't like traffic, waiting, crowds and politicians.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a secure place.

I'm wrinkled, saggy and lumpy and that's just my left leg.

I'm having trouble remembering simple words

like. . .

I' realizing that aging is not for wimps.

I'm sure they are making adults much younger these days.

I'm wondering if you're only as old as you feel, how could I be alive at 150?

I'm a walking storeroom of facts. I've just lost the storeroom.

Yes, I'm a Senior Citizen and I think I am having the time of my life!

May God protect you always!

Phillip Meurer,
