WRV goes 2-1 at Mitchell

The White River Valley Lady Wolverines notched their first win of the year -- and the first for new head coach Shawn Brown -- following Saturday's Mitchell Invitational.

The Lady Wolverines opened the day with an 11-25, 16-25 loss to Orleans before finally breaking into the win column.

Their first win of the season in six tries came against the host Lady Bluejackets following a 25-21, 25-17 decision.

The match was highlighted by outside hitter Sydney Kail who recorded 12 of WRV's 16 kills in the match.

She also collected five blocks and five digs, also team-highs.

The second win of the year for WRV came at the expense of West Washington in the Lady Wolverines' final match of the day.

Kail once again paced the Lady Wolverines with a team-high 10 kills and three blocks. She shared the team lead in digs (four) with Amanda Mowery.

The Lady Wolverines return to the court Thursday when they travel to Shakamak for a Southwestern Indiana Conference match with the Lady Lakers at 6 p.m.

In junior varsity action Saturday the Lady Wolverines also won two games.

First they dropped a 25-10, 25-12 decision to Orleans before getting their first victory of the year with a 25-20, 25-18 victory over Mitchell.

They also defeated West Washington 25-11, 25-10.
