Many help Owensburg Cemetery

To the Editor:

The Owensburg Cemetery Association wants to express its sincere appreciation for help in maintaining the cemetery.

There isn't much written history regarding the association; however, many years ago the community would spend a day cleaning up the cemetery and pitched in for a big dinner afterwards.

These annual meetings became a tradition, and someone thought it would be a good idea to have a mailing list to remind everyone of the meeting. At one time, those were hand printed on post cards.

There are so many people, past and present, who have given generously of their time and funds. The following are some of the ways our cemetery is supported: Yearly donations for mowing and upkeep; occasional contributions to perpetual-care endowment funds; memorial contributions after someone dies; the Lewis family (Merle, Maxine, Leslie) allows the cemetery to use the gravel road which is on their property; the Loretta and Evert Rush family donated a headstone for another family unrelated to them; the Ralph and Jennie Rainey have had family auctions and donated money from those to the cemetery; W. L. and Treva Thomas donated the chain-link fence around the cemetery; the Sharon and Jack Chaney family donated from their farm the entire cemetery acreage as it exists; others pick up trash; many check on the cemetery as they drive past or visit a loved one; Mike Campbell spends extra time on the cemetery grounds when working at the cemetery.

Please don't think that this is a complete list as it would take a book to mention each and every person and what he or she has so generously done.

There are three endowment funds for perpetual care of the cemetery:

(1) Owensburg Cemetery Fund, (2) Jack Inman Fund and (3) Morris L. Hudson Memorial Fund. If you are interested in donating to any of those, please contact the association.

The Owensburg Cemetery book is very close to publication. Every effort is being made to include all obituaries so if you have any old obituaries please provide those to us. Cheryl Gliva has spent a huge amount of time on the book. Roseann Godsey is going to help wrap it up and get it ready for publication.

Persons with reserved plots should review the rules posted at the cemetery as there are some rule changes that could affect them.

Again, thanks to everyone for all they do! Please direct questions/comments to sandra.l.hudson@gmail.com or (812) 863-7924.

Kids Fair was

a huge success

To the Editor:

In spite of the rain, this year's Greene County Kids Fair was a huge success, as 36 different organizations hosted information and interactive booths.

I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who made this year's event a great one. From the financial and door prize donors to the participating organizations to the vendors' Hospitality Room hosts to the Kids Fair Planning Committee members -- each of you deserves a huge pat on the back!

This year's Kids Fair was Greene County at its best: Everyone working together to provide a wonderful day of free, fun, family activities.
