Celtic music coming to Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center on Thursday

Monday, March 28, 2011

Look for the sounds of Celtic music to hit the Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center of Greene County on Thursday.

Celtic fiddler Emily Ann Thompson along with her husband will perform at 7 p.m. at the local venue.

Thompson plays traditional Irish, Scottish, and Cape Breton tunes in a highly energetic and original style. In addition to fiddling, Emily also sings in English and Irish Gaelic. Emily's husband, Kelly, will also join her on guitar, percussion, and vocals.

The concert is being sponsored by the Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center, the Up Right Studio, Linton-Stockton Elementary Music and the Linton Gamma Rho chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, says a press release on the matter.

Look for a donation box at the door to help cover the expenses of the musicians and add to the new furnace fund for the Carnegie.

Those donating to the evening will be entered into the drawing for some very fine Irish door prizes. Light refreshments of "Irish Stew and Soda Bread" washed down with ginger ale will be served for $1.

During the event, a variety of Greene County artists will also have their works on display and available for purchase.

Thompson has performed at many different venues and events including the Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art, Ohio River Valley Folk Festival, Indy Irish Fest, Indy Folk Series, Broad Ripple Art Fair, Carmel International Arts Festival, Carmel Fest, The Indianapolis City Market, Conner Prairie, Linton Music Festival, Indianapolis Arts Garden, and Zionsville Concert Series. She also performs at house concerts, wineries, pubs, restaurants, weddings, churches, libraries, retirement communities, schools, restaurants and pubs. Emily keeps a busy schedule, and performs throughout the Midwest as well as Arizona, California, and Florida.

Her main influences include Natalie MacMaster, Eileen Ivers, Winifred Horan, Bruce Molsky, Stephane Grapelli and Mark O'Conner. By drawing inspiration from many different musicians and different types of music, she truly has created her own unique style of Celtic fiddling.

Thompson will also perform at the Linton-Stockton Elementary School on Friday.
