Lady Lakers win fourth in a row
Shakamak scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Lady Lakers defeated visiting South Vermillion 7-2 in a high school softball game at Jasonville Friday night.
The victory was the fourth in a row for SHS as they improved to 4-9.
"I have been really pleased with the way we have played the last four games," said Shakamak coach B.A. Shipman. "This was a pretty good win.
"We came out and set the tone by taking a 4-0 lead. We were able to execute and get some bunts down and put pressure on their defense."Meghan Miller scattered eight hits to earn her fourth victory in seven decisions. She allowed one earned run, fanned three and walked none.
Jazmine Martin was 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base for the Lakers.
Micayla Crane had a hit, two runs, one RBI and one steal.
Miller helped her own cause with two hits in three at bats and one RBI and Kelsey Pilant contributed one run, one hit and batted in one.
The Lakers will compete at 10 a.m. Saturday (today) at the Mooresville Invitational against the host Lady Pioneers.
