Bloomfield beats North Daviess, 4-1

BLOOMFIELD -- The Bloomfield girls tennis team continued their winning ways by dispatching North Daviess 4-1 Friday afternoon on the Cardinals home court. The Lady Cardinals have an 11-0 record.

The only position Bloomfield didn't dominate was at No. 1 singles where Cougar Stacey Beard downed Sarah Scott in a tough fought 6-2, 6-3 decision.

Beard is 8-0 for the season and is one of the best players in the area.

Bloomfield took the other two singles spots with Alley Gilliland picking up her 11th win beating Brianna Long 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 position while Kari Schulte improved her season record to 10-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Caitlin Chesnut at three singles.

Neither doubles team had problems winning their positions. The No. 1 duo of Bailee Byers and Elena Weddle downed J'Lynn Borter and Taylor Jeffers, 6-0, 6-3 while the No. 2 pair of Rachel Helms and Emily Walker remained undefeated by beating Sarah Smith and Alison Beasley, 6-0, 6-2.

Next week is the final week of the regular season and it will be a full, tough week.

Monday, the Cardinals will celebrate senior night against Washington for a 5 p.m. match.

This will be the final home match for Sarah Scott, Alley Gilliland and Bailee Byers.

On Tuesday, Bloomfield travels to Loogootee and then heads down the same road Wednesday to take on Barr-Reeve.

The week will finish off with the Cardinals going to North Daviess for the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference tournament Friday and Saturday May 13-14.
