Cougars top Wolverines, 5-0
White River Valley came up on the short end of a 5-0 score to visiting North Daviess in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference baseball game at Switz City Friday.
The Wolverines droped to 4-7 overall, 1-3 in the SWIAC.
"I thought the kids played really well," said WRV coach Justin English. "The kids played hard. We just came up short against a good team."
Ethan Sparks, Michael White and Brandon Engler each had a single as the Wolverines were limited to three hits by North Daviess pitching.
"We just could not get the bats going," said English. "We hit a lot of balls right at them.
"We were really sound defensively. We had two errors and those were mental errors. Trent Carpenter started and pitched the first five innings. Ethan Sparks threw the last two innings. Our pitching was excellent. Trent really pitched a good game and kept us in it the whole time."
The Wolverines, who lost 13-3 at Cloverdale Thursday, will host Bloomfield at 7 p.m. Monday in a make-up conference game.
