Great job

Shawnee Theatre

To the Editor:

To Brandon and Kevin at the Shawnee Theatre:

My friend and I attended the Johnny Cash musical this past Saturday evening at the Shawnee Theatre. We were delighted and thrilled by the superb performance of the actors and musicians.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening -- until the end of the play. When the audience stood it should have been to give a standing ovation. Instead, people began leaving. There was no encore, no chance to shout appreciation, to clap until my hands hurt. Just a fading away of the actors and the audience.

Unfortunately this is not uncommon with the Shawnee audience, and I feel frustrated and let down by the lack of appreciation shown after the wonderful performances given. If I feel this way, I can imagine how the actors, who have worked so hard to bring excellence to the Shawnee stage, must feel. The cast and staff deserve better.

The new microphones worn by the actors made the performance on Saturday so much better than in past years when I had difficulty hearing. A big improvement!

After the performances I always want to speak to the actors and staff, to congratulate them on their performance. While I know they are tired at the end of the show, is it possible that they could come to the lobby area to receive a word of praise and thanks? Would I be the only one to shake a hand and offer praise?

Thanks for a job well done. My husband, our friends, and I plan to continue to enjoy the show.
