An unexpected wide right turn of a truck and trailer prompts wreck near Worthington
An unexpected wide right turn of a truck and trailer caused a Spencer man to be ejected from his motorcycle Tuesday morning.
Nathan Royer, 34, of Switz City was traveling south on State Road 57 at around 10:30 a.m., south of County Road 100 S.
Royer was driving a 2002 Ford Pickup truck, pulling a gooseneck trailer, belonging to S&C Cornelius Farms out of Switz City, according to Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Terry Wade.
Michael Knight, 43, of Spencer, was traveling behind Royer on S.R. 57 on a 2009 Yamaha V-Star Motorcycle, when Royer began to make a right hand turn onto CR 200 S.
Wade said the truck had to make a wide right turn due to the attached trailer.
"Knight was also traveling southbound behind Royer, and noticed Royer was going to make a right hand turn ... Knight tried to pass the trailer -- it was a passing zone -- and was not anticipating a wide turn," Wade said.
As Knight realized the truck was turning wide, he tried to stop, but the motorcycle fishtailed.
"He was ejected from the bike, it ignites, catches fire and burns up," Wade said, noting Knight was wearing a helmet.
Knight was transported to Greene County General Hospital for injuries sustained at the accident, but Wade said the injuries were not life threatening.
The trailer attached to Royer's truck had some minor scratches, but nothing significant, Wade added.
Switz City Fire Department, Greene County Ambulance Service and Bill's Auto Wrecker Service also responded to the accident.
